Counselling & Psychotherapy

with Charlotte McGilligan
MBACP Accredited Psychotherapist

Counselling and psychotherapy provide a confidential space to explore emotional difficulties, relational patterns, and the experiences that shape how you think, feel, and respond.

At The McGilligan Practice, therapy is clinically grounded and tailored to the individual. Charlotte supports people seeking a deeper understanding of themselves, particularly where relationships feel complex, emotional difficulties persist, or life has become increasingly overwhelming or uncertain.

Sessions are offered in a calm, reflective, and supportive environment where experiences can be explored safely and at a pace that feels manageable.

When People Seek Therapy

People seek therapy for many different reasons. Sometimes there is a clear difficulty such as anxiety, emotional distress, burnout, or relationship strain. At other times, there may simply be a growing sense of feeling stuck, emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected, or unable to fully understand repeating patterns within yourself or your relationships.

Therapy offers space to pause, reflect, and develop greater awareness of the experiences, emotions, and patterns that may be shaping daily life. Through this process, people often begin to feel more emotionally grounded, more self-aware, and better able to navigate relationships, change, and uncertainty.

How We Work

Charlotte’s approach begins with a thoughtful conversation to understand your experiences, current difficulties, and what you hope to gain from therapy.

Sessions are collaborative, reflective, and tailored to the individual. Therapy offers space to explore emotions, relationships, patterns, and experiences within a supportive and professionally grounded therapeutic relationship.

The pace and focus of therapy are guided by your individual needs, recognising that meaningful psychological change often develops through understanding, reflection, emotional safety, and consistency over time.

Therapeutic Approach

Charlotte’s work is grounded in psychotherapy and relational understanding, recognising that present difficulties are often shaped by earlier experiences, emotional patterns, relationships, and the ways we learn to navigate the world around us.

Her approach integrates emotional understanding with thoughtful exploration of behaviour, coping patterns, self-concept, attachment, and relational dynamics. Therapy is not focused solely on managing symptoms, but on developing greater insight, emotional awareness, and more sustainable ways of relating to yourself and others.

Where appropriate, therapy may also support individuals navigating neurodivergence, emotional regulation difficulties, overwhelm, burnout, or periods of significant life change.
