About The McGilligan Practice

About Us

The McGilligan Practice was created to offer calm, thoughtful, and structured psychological support for people navigating emotional distress, life change, and periods of instability.

We believe good support should feel safe, respectful, and practical. It should help people understand what is happening for them, find steadier ways of coping, and move toward change at a pace that feels manageable.

Our work sits at the meeting point of emotional care, behavioural understanding, and real-life functioning. We support individuals, families, and organisations to reduce distress, build stability, and strengthen wellbeing.

We work from Telford and deliver support both in person and remotely across the West Midlands.

Our Purpose

We exist to:

  • Provide accessible, ethical psychological support

  • Work with people as individuals, not labels

  • Balance compassion with structure

  • Reduce distress, instability, and isolation

  • Support people to live safer, steadier, more connected lives

We are committed to work that is respectful, evidence-informed, and grounded in real human experience.

Our Approach

Our work is:

  • Collaborative: you are involved in shaping your goals

  • Structured: sessions have purpose and direction

  • Flexible: we adapt to your pace and needs

  • Safe: attentive to emotional and practical stability

We take time to understand what is happening for you emotionally, practically, and within the wider context of your life. Early work often focuses on clarity and containment, helping you make sense of your experiences, recognise patterns, and feel steadier before moving toward deeper change.

Work Blur

We work with:

  • Emotional distress and overwhelm

  • Trauma and difficult past experiences

  • Relationship and family difficulties

  • Identity and self-worth

  • Neurodiversity and emotional regulation

  • Periods of instability or transition

Support can be short-term and focused, or longer-term and exploratory, depending on what you need.
